2022 - Exhibition "Small Ships, Great Masters"

The exhibition Small Ships, Great Masters showcased 26 masterful ship models from Estonian model makers.

‘There are many masters among us, whose work is appreciated in Estonia and abroad. With this exhibition, we will explore how the most renowned of them – Juri Žurba, Ago Kalberg, Pavel Vedehhin, and Aleksandr Stepanov – build their models. We will also introduce the history of model building, types of models, building techniques, and materials. Alongside it all, we enable visitors to try out model building themselves,’ said Mihkel Karu, curator of the exhibition.

What was done?
A new amazing exhibition was created

What was my role?
I was a project manager at Motor.

Biggest surprise?
In the design phase, we were planning to use plexiglass in the gallery area because the budget was quite tight. At the beginning of construction phase, we discovered that the world market had turned upside down and instead of plexiglass, it was cheaper to use tempered glass. This meant that we had to redesign wall structures to bear higher weights.
The end result was definitely more esthetic than with plexiglass.
